WRAPPED IN LOVE: BLANKETS FOR SHELTER PETS

Shelter life is rough. As much as volunteers and staff try to make the lives of homeless animals as pleasant as can be, shelters have a cold, sterile feeling to them. Wrapped in Love (WIL) is an organization founded by Patrick Desjardins that is dedicated to providing comfort to shelter animals everywhere through donations of warm handmade blankets.

To date, WIL has made and donated over 2,700 blankets to cat and dog rescue groups through their membership and network of artisans and crafters. WIL is a group that is organized to facilitate and coordinate the making of blankets. They are not a 501c3 non-profit and they do not collect donations. WIL has no employees and operates exclusively with volunteers.

Their “soul” purpose is provide a place where other artisans and crafters can collaborate, share photos of donated blankets, and help others with blanket construction/design. It also serves as  a place to make friendships with like-minded people. The online, collaborative format has been successful because members are working from the heart to fulfill the needs of one shelter at a time.

How does it work?

WIL posts a rescue in need of blankets and members sew, knit, crochet, and quilt to meet the needs of the featured rescue group.

The group donates collectively to provide a fast, efficient and effective donation source. Once the requested blankets have been donated, WIL features a new rescue organization and members begin making blankets again.

Want to get involved making blankets?

WIL doesn’t accept money or donations. Only blankets. You’ll have to sew, knit, crochet or quilt your donation. Visit the WIL website at  www.wil4u.com. On their website you will find

all of the information and resources you need. View the “Files” section of the website to find patterns, instructions, and other how-to’s.

If you’re a rescue group…

You can be considered for blanket donations. If you are a 501(c)3 animal rescue and wish to be considered, contact the Rescue

Group Coordinator, Amanda Nole. NOTE: Please do not post solicitations for your rescue or send a PM to members for the same.
