You give your cat everything – the best food, filtered water, a snuggly bed and hundreds of toys. But does your cat have a tiny hat with which to feel fancy? No? Now your cat can have it all and feel fancy every day – the new book, Tiny Hats on Cats: Because Every Cat Deserves to Feel Fancy, will show you how!
Tiny Hats on Cats: Because Every Cat Deserves to Feel Fancy by Adam Ellis, shows you step-by-step, how to make a tiny hat for your cat. With over 200 pages of vibrant pictures and detailed instructions – you’ll love this book. Perusing this book is fabulous. It’s like a a museum tour of tiny hats for cats – each cat hat is a tiny work of art.
Maxwell, the Tiny Hat Model
The book’s author, Adam Ellis, is the proud owner of Maxwell, who is the featured model in most of the pictures (and all pics below). Adam adopted Maxwell to give his other cat, Pepper, a friend. Adam visited an animal shelter and noticed that Maxwell was extremely shy in his cold shelter cage – shrinking behind his food bowl – and Maxwell was also missing his front leg. While many people passed up Maxwell when they learned that he only had three legs, Adam embraced the little guy and decided to take him home. The three (Adam, Maxwell and Pepper) have made fast friends ever since.
Here’s just a few of the hats featured in the book…
In the beginning…
Being inspired by Maxwell, Adam thought that he deserved to feel fancy – and so he made him his first fancy tiny hat… and the rest is history. One tiny hat led to 100 – and each one is a splendid work of art and a tribute to his pal, Maxwell.
“All cats deserve to look as stylish as possible, which is why I started Tiny Hats On Cats. I’ve always been crafty and I decided what better model to showcase my work than my cat! Each hat only takes about 20 minutes to make, and they’re usually destroyed by my cats after getting their photos taken.” – Adam Ellis
Surprisingly Simple to Make (Kind of)
The hats that Adam creates are incredibly ornate; yet they are made from inexpensive, ordinary materials – and the directions are unexpectedly easy to follow. I had my 11-year old niece attempt to make a tiny hat, and I think she did a great job, actually… but Adam has it down to an art and science.
No special tools. All you’ll need is:
- Pencil (or pen)
- Glue stick (Adam prefers Martha Stewart’s glue stick)
- Liquid Glue
- Glue gun (Adam thinks it’s much easier to use than liquid glue)
- Bone folder, to make creases and curls
- X-ACTO knife
- Hole punch
- Construction paper

Are tiny hats for every cat?
They can be… but please be sure that you treat your cat with respect at all times and never force your cat to do anything (or wear anything) for your own amusement, particularly if it’s making your cat unhappy. Adam’s cat, Maxwell, does not mind wearing tiny hats at all. His other cat, Pepper, isn’t much of a fan, and prefers to eat the hats that Adam makes him. So Adam leaves the modeling to Maxwell.
I had a similar situation. My cat Romesy didn’t mind wearing the hat we made (for about 30 seconds)… while Rocky wouldn’t let me put it on his little head… instead he thought the tiny hat was a new toy and kept batting it off of Romesy’s head and out of my hand. I didn’t force it… and I think the tiny hat is now under the couch with 100 other toys.
