Mikita is the star of @chicagoblackcat! After a year of posting photos and videos of Mikita on Instagram, his meow and big eyes began to draw attention. Fans started coming back for more of his adorably innocent meows and fell in love with his sweet and playful personality. He shows off his ability to do tricks for treats and impresses fans by crunching his way through raw chicken necks. Mikita is a shoulder cat and loves to be held. He was recently joined by his new cat sister Dahlia.

Chuck (the duck) is a costume hoarder, an Instagram class clown, and a stealer of hearts! He has been making people giggle with his costume and hair extension collection since 2014! Beetlejuice, Princess Leia, and his Beyoncé wig have been some of the most entertaining posts on his Instagram! The New York Times, Chicago Magazine, and most recently, The Chicago Tribune have been some of the most notable publications Chuck has been featured in!

Chuck is starring as the main character in an illustrated ABC children’s book his human, Cody, has been working toward finishing! The book will also feature a large group of his Instagram friends as characters throughout the pages!

Sinbad the Cat (also known as “Sinbad the Survivor) reached prominence after his rescue in December of 2016. Discovered in a basement by a utility worker, Sinbad was in neglected condition, and dragging 5 pounds of matted fur and feces around after not being groomed for a very long time. He was taken in by The Anti-Cruelty Society and given a new lease on life after being shaved and put into foster care. His “foster dad” created a Facebook and Instagram page for Sinbad, and internet stardom followed!
Sinbad has been featured on WGN Television, CNN, Fox News, The Dodo, People.com, The Washington Post, The Daily Mirror, as well as many other publications around the world! Sinbad’s fans write in to him from as far away as Australia!

This feisty bundle of fun is a two year old Thanksgiving baby, with a two year old attitude to match!
He loves to exercise, whether it’s going for walks on his leash, running on his exercise wheel, or playing in water. Don’t let that last one fool you; he hates baths!
Eddie has been featured in several Chicago newspapers and magazines for local pet Instagram accounts. When he was four months old had the chance to have a meet and greet with Key and Peele while they were promoting Keanu! You could say he’s kind of a big deal.
Even with all this excitement in his life, he’s always got time for snuggles; he is a total momma’s boy, after all!

Steve Dale, certified animal behavior consultant (CABC), has reached more pet owners over the past few decades than any other pet journalist in America. He is the host of two nationally syndicated radio shows, Steve Dale’s Pet World and The Pet Minute (together heard on more than 100 radio stations, syndicated Black Dog Radio Productions, since 2005). He’s also a special contributor at WGN Radio, Chicago, and program host of Steve Dale’s Pet World (since 1997). He formerly hosted the nationally broadcast Animal Planet Radio.
For 21 years, his twice weekly newspaper column was syndicated by the Chicago Tribune. Steve was a contributing editor for USA Weekend (2002 to 2014), and regular columnist at Cat Fancy magazine (2006 to 2014). He has written for a long list of magazines, from People to Dog World (where he was a columnist). He’s currently a columnist and contributing editor for CATster, and authors a column called Steve Dale’s Vet World for Veterinary Practice News.

Anne E. Beall is a researcher and author who has published several books. She is an animal advocate and has written extensively about the bond between animals and humans. She received her M.S., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Social Psychology from Yale University. She is CEO and founder of Beall Research, a strategic market research firm in Chicago, Illinois.

Julie Posluns is the founder of Cat School – an online clicker training school for cats. Julie created Cat School when she realized that cats were missing out on the enrichment and practical skills that clicker training provides. She has an MSc in Animal Behaviour from Memorial University in Newfoundland and has been clicker training animals for over 10 years. Rachel works with animals all over the world who are sick, injured, have a terminal illness or suffer from trauma due to previous abuse. Rachel’s business was featured in a best selling Hay House published book, Women Rocking Business, she has been interviewed by the international animal protection organization In Defense of Animals and because of her activism, Rachel was interviewed by the New York Times, CNN, BBC and was on the cover of People Magazine. Rachel has worked with thousands of animals and her techniques have created miraculous results in her patients. Rachel is the Modern Dr. Dolittle and she’s committed to helping us keep our furbabies healthy.

A lifelong animal advocate, Jenny Schlueter feels fortunate to be able to dedicate her life to helping homeless animals – especially shelter cats – who are often treated like second class kit-izens. Jenny started volunteering at an animal shelter in college, and after some years working as a reporter and teacher, she started doing community cat work in Madrid, Spain. Returning to the states in 2003, Jenny joined Tree House Humane Society, where she did Development and Marketing work by day and TNR and rescue work after hours. Jenny helped develop the Cook County TNR ordinance in 2007, and subsequently launched the Tree House Community Cats and Cats at Work program. In, September 2016, Jenny joined the administration at Chicago Animal Care and Control, where she focuses on communication, outreach, and program management. She especially enjoys working with partners to provide community cat services to Chicagoans and their Windy City Kitties. Over the last 15 years, Jenny has personally assisted thousands of cats via TNR, fostering, enrichment work, and adoptions. She lives in Chicago with 2 dogs, 8 indoor cats, 10 colony cats, and a cat dude.

Danielle received her BA in Communication Arts at Malone University. She has a certificate in Non-Profit Management through the University of Chicago and is a Maddie’s Fund Animal Shelter Management Certificate Program scholarship recipient. She has been working in sheltering for nearly four years, starting off as an Adoption Counselor. She is now the Shelter Manager at Tree House Humane Society in Chicago, Illinois and a member of The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement. She is the proud mama of two cats, Margot and Clementine.

Sarah has worked with cats in shelters for the last 10 years in various capacities – including as a volunteer, adoption counselor, intake coordinator, and currently as the Operations and Community Cats Manager at Tree House Humane Society. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a Master’s Degree in Anthrozoology from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. Sarah resides in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago with her husband, Little Wayne the cat, and Maggie the dog.

LINDA ROBERTS

Linda Roberts is a life-long animal lover. She grew up with cats and a horse. As an adult she continues to take care of cats, dogs, leopard geckos, and fish in her home. She also cares for her beloved horse, Howie, who helped her become more aware of her communication abilities. It was his illness, which led her to seek alternative treatments of Reiki, essential oils, and animal communication. Her love for him allowed her to develop her abilities to communicate with all animals. It is a heart to heart connection that allows her to communicate. In addition to all of the animals in her care, Linda also has two children in college on the West Coast. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Sociology/Psychology from SIU and a Masters of Arts in Human Resources from Loyola University. Linda resides in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago.

After seeing free-roaming cats in her Northside Chicago neighborhood nearly a decade ago, Liz Houtz became actively engaged in trap-neuter-return (TNR). From 2013 to 2017 Liz headed the Community Cats Program at the Tree House Humane Society, a founding Sponsor of the Cook CountyManaged Care of Feral Cats ordinance.  She has trapped thousands of cats, fostered hundreds of friendly cats, socialized countless kittens and worked numerous cat hoarding projects. During the day Liz is employed with a Fortune 500 company, but she continues to trap and foster cats, teach TNR workshops and dedicate the majority of her free time towards advancing the welfare of cats.  She lives in Chicago with her 4 indoor cats Jada, Ziggy, Roscoe and Addison and her outside feral cat Addy.

Erica began her career in animal welfare in 2012 as the Community Cats Program Coordinator at Tree House Humane Society. In 2015 she became the Community Cats Program Coordinator at PAWS Chicago where she hired to create a comprehensive, shelter-based community cats program. For 7 years, Erica has been an administrator of the Chicago Community Cats Facebook group, the largest online trap-neuter-return (TNR) resource network in Illinois. Since leaving PAWS Chicago in 2017, she has created a barn cat network for feral cats at risk and administrates the Illinois Barn Cats Facebook group. She is the Co-Founder of Cats in Action, a resource and advocacy group dedicated to TNR and the welfare of free-roaming cats.

CASSIE ZEHREN

Cassie Zehren is a Usui Reiki Master/Teacher and 200 hr Yoga Instructor. She has a deep commitment and passion for helping humans and animals heal. She has been helping and volunteering to save animals for more than 10 years and has volunteered at Harmony House Cat Shelter, PAWS in Chicago, and Mercy for Animals to spread her healing love to animals. She uses Reiki to help animals heal and find happy homes. Her dream is to own an animal sanctuary that is welcome to all animals and is looking forward to weaving together her love of Reiki with yoga to create a welcoming and healing space.
