Behold! Pounce de León!
Presenting a cat who is sure to be one of the internet’s next cat super-stars! The similarities are stunning between Pounce de León and the famed explorer, Juan Ponce de León.
I came across Pounce on Instagram and fell in love him immediately. I admit, I have a bit of a cat-crush. I’m not sure if it was his antics, his sweet face, or the moustache and goatee. Yes, take a look at that goatee!! The little black patch of fur on his chin is actually longer too! I had to interview him to find out more about this intriguing kitty named Pounce!

Pounce’s owner is a man named Trevor, who is a network specialist, and lives and works in southern California. Trevor adopted Pounce de León back in February when he was only four months old. Today Pounce is a thriving eight-month old kitty.
The name…
From the first day Trevor met Pounce, he knew he was special – and thus required a very special name. Trevor didn’t want to be pressured into a name by his vet or anyone else, so he took his time and asked family and friends for ideas. Nothing sounded quite right, so naturally, Trevor took to Reddit to ask for suggestions. He was astounded by the creativity of people looking to name Pounce… from Salvador Dali, Inigo Montoya, Guy Fawkes (as you might have guessed), Dartagnon, Wyatt Earp, Don Juan, Errol Flynn, Groucho Marx, Van Dyke, Doc Holliday, Sir Gallahad, Snidely Whiplash, Don Quixote, Jafar, Burt Reynolds, Tom Selleck, Houdini, Zorro… nothing was quite right until someone suggested Pounce de León. And then it clicked! That was it… and Pounce de León has lived up to his explorer name ever since.

- Pounce de Leon means business.
- Pounce de Leon looking proud!
- Pounce de Leon enjoying being petted.
- Pounce de Leon probably getting ready to pounce.
Pounce de León, also known as “Pounce” for short, or even “Pounce man”, “Pounce-a-mundo”, and “Dr. Pouncington M.D.” loves to eat Blue Buffalo Indoor Chicken Food… but will try to steal noms whenever he can. He loves chasing mice toys around the house (he likes his green one the best) – especially if they are attached to a lanyard that Trevor pulls to make the mouse wiggle. He is also known to partake in an occasional nip session.
But things haven’t always been easy…
Things weren’t always roses for Pounce. He was found by Trevor’s boss’s aunt who was visiting from out of town. Pounce was a stray kitten that was hanging around the neighborhood and appeared to be really roughed up; he had a number of terrible wounds that looked like burns. Pounce doesn’t speak much about what happened to him though.
The aunt didn’t want to leave little Pounce alone, so initially, Pounce stayed with Trevor’s co-worker, Cody. Unfortunately, Cody already had three cats and a dog – and Pounce was terrified of the dog – so Cody set out to find a good home for little Pounce… enter Trevor! When Trevor found out that Cody could not keep Pounce, he jumped (or pounced) at the chance to adopt him. Says Trevor,
“Even more than his stylish good looks, his lovable personality is probably my favorite thing about him. I’ve never met a cat quite like Pounce.”
Besties
“My family has always had cats, which is a trend I continued into adulthood. And of course we love them all so much, but I can’t say that any of them have been as special as Pounce has been. He’s such a marvelous balance of lovable characteristics. Combined with his distinguished markings, he has this magnificent charm about him that just can’t be beat!”
