I visited Temari no Ouchi after a magical day at the Ghibli Museum (located in the same charming town) in 2014. I had been to a few other cat cafes- most in the Kyoto/Osaka region- while studying in Japan for a year, but this one was the best hands down. The price was really good (if I remember correctly, you get a really good deal if you go in the last few hours of the day), the staff was really friendly, and the cats seemed generally happier and more relaxed than the cats in any other cafe I’d been to. This was the case probably because the cafe was extremely spacious with plenty of ways for the cats to climb up to a high vantage point. Also, the space had plenty of exit holes for the cats to go escape if they were feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable. The staff was really incredible at making sure the cats didn’t eat too much or too little, and stuck to their own, individual food bowls.
Also, the place serves alcoholic drinks, so, that was appreciated 😉 the food menu looked really cute, too.
If you go, look out for a cat named Kinoko. She’s got a squished face and looks a bit grumpy, but she’s a big lovable sweetheart once she trusts you. Give her some affection for me while you’re there!
